What We Treat in Schools

Common Illnesses

Students/faculty can be evaluated and tested for ailments such as minor colds, the flu, sore throat, cough, ear concerns, headaches, sinus or allergy issues, nosebleeds, or pink eye.

Skin Irritations and Allergies

With assistance from the school nurse, skin conditions such as acne, minor infections, lice, pinworms, rashes, styes, or warts can be evaluated by our telemedicine providers online.

GI Concerns

Students/faculty can receive care for constipation, diarrhea, heartburn, nausea, period pain and other GI issues.

Onsite Testing

If a student/faculty member is showing symptoms of an illness, the school nurse can consult with our doctor or provider and test the child for the flu, strep throat, or even COVID-19 right from the nurse’s office.

Immediate Needs Or Questions

The school nurse can quickly consult with one of our providers to have the student/faculty member evaluated for an illness or injury.

Minor Injuries

Students/faculty members can quickly connect to one of our online providers to evaluate cuts, burns, bites, and other minor injuries while onsite in the school nurse’s office.

Improved Attendance

Students/faculty members can receive care and on-site testing immediately and quickly be evaluated for contagious ailments such as strep throat, the flu, and even COVID-19. This will also help to identify the students who can be sent back to class if needed. This helps to prevent the spread of illnesses and keeps healthy students and faculty in school.

No Child Left Behind

We are committed to providing every student in your district access to high-quality pediatric care, with or without insurance.

Immediate Access to Care

This service provides immediate care and assessment that otherwise would be delayed due to appointment scheduling and drive-time. Our goal is to help students and faculty members get well sooner, so we offer on-demand care that’s accessible within minutes.

Happy Parents

Parents/guardians often have trouble leaving work to pick up their student and it’s even more challenging to arrange a same-day appointment with their doctor. This service eases those challenges and allows students to be treated without leaving school.

Convenience

Students/faculty members have the opportunity to be seen within minutes by a pediatrician/provider. Students and faculty can be ushered back to class/work after feeling better to continue their day.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a cost to use this service?

The visit will be automatically billed to the patient’s insurance company with no action needed by the patient.

TRICARE Prime members typically pay $0 for use of this service and other TRICARE members pay an affordable fee per visit. Virtual Care for Families is a TRICARE authorized provider and in-network with all TRICARE plans.

All Texas Medicaid plans are accepted and most visits for Medicaid covered patients will cost $0.

VCFF is in-network with most major plans (BCBS, UHC, Cigna, Aetna, Humana, etc) and a telemedicine visit typically costs the same as a normal trip to your doctor’s office.

Virtual Care for Families will offer charity for students who are without insurance and who are enrolled in the Free and Reduced Meal Program. All other students without health insurance will be offered a cash pay discount rate of $50 per visit.

Will this service be paid for by the school district?

No! Virtual Care for Families is offering this service at no cost to the district. All services, training, and supplies are provided to the schools by Virtual Care for Families for $0. Our team is happy to be of service to your community! We allow districts to avoid the timely RFP/RFQ process and quickly deliver health service solutions to your families.

Will this program increase the district attendance rate?

Yes! Our data has shown that 32% of students return to class after an in-school telemedicine visit driving ADA. Also, 100% of students seen by telemedicine in a school nurse’s office who are sent home count as PRESENT at school the day of the visit. Currently, those same sick students who are sent home from the nurses office prior to 10:00am are counted as ABSENT that day. This greatly improves ADA.

Is there a COVID-19 return to school plan?

Yes! We have developed a COVID return to school standard operating procedure and guidelines that were reviewed and blessed by the Texas School Safety Center. We are your army of physicians paving the way for safely reopening your schools.

What about uninsured families?

Virtual Care for Families makes sure no child is left behind. We deliver the same quality care to EVERY child in your district, even those without insurance (children must qualify and apply for the program). Students uninsured and enrolled in the Free/Reduced Meal Program are eligible for care at no cost. For a virtual visit outside of school for uninsured families, we offer a discounted rate of $50.

What about training and implementation of the program?

We have constructed user-friendly online training for nurses: the process takes ~30 minutes. Our customized implementation schedule ranges from 30 days to 6 months.

Is this service available in the evenings or on weekends?

Yes! Virtual Care for Families is open every day (including weekends and holidays) from 8am–9pm. Students/faculty members can receive care through their smartphone or computer within minutes from wherever they are.
